School resource officer resigns over ‘flirtatious’ texts to student

A school resource officer for William A. Hough High in Cornelius has resigned after police discovered he was flirting with a student via text message.

Officer Winston Douglas left his position with the Cornelius Police Department after investigators determined he sent inappropriate messages to an 18-year-old female at the high school.

The investigation determined the text messages were not obscene but were “flirtatious in nature.” Police said no charges are pending against Douglas but will continue their investigation if additional allegation surface.
