Thinking about a run for CMS board?

MeckEd, a nonprofit education and advocacy group, is holding a “ Board of Education 101” session Thursday morning for anyone who wants to learn more about running for and serving on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board.

Filing for the six district seats on the nine-member board begins in July, but the MeckEd primer serves as the unofficial start of the campaign season. The nonpartisan election is in November.

Current and former board leaders will speak at the session, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Novant Health/BB&T building, 108 Providence Road. There’s no charge, but participants are asked to register with Shana Phillips, sphillips@mecked.org or 704-335-0100. Ann Doss Helms
