GOP mayoral field narrows

The potential Republican field for Charlotte’s mayoral race narrowed Wednesday when Republican Scott Stone, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2011, said he won’t run.

“I think we’ve got a great chance of winning this year and we need to be unified,” he said.

Republican Edwin Peacock, a former City Council member, is the only candidate who has announced.

Democratic Mayor Anthony Foxx said this month that he won’t run a third term.

Several Democrats are considering a ruin, including state Rep. Becky Carney and Sen. Dan Clodfelter.
