CMPD honors top telecommunicator

Megan Sloop is being honored Thursday morning by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police as its Telecommunicator of the Year.

Sloop is being recognized by CMS officials during a special ceremony at the department’s headquarters uptown. Police say she is among 100 telecommunicators with CMPD.

Those telecommunicators answered more than 840,000 incoming 9-1-1 calls last year, and police say Sloop answered and processed more than 6,300 of those calls. Police say she was working during the collapse of a ceiling at SouthPark Mall during a rainstorm last year, and she also was on the job when a tornado struck northeast Charlotte last March.

She was named Civilian Employee of the Month twice in 2012 and was CMPD’s Employee of the Quarter for the period October through December.
