A Union County man will serve at least 39 years in prison after being convicted Wednesday in Monroe on two counts of sexually assaulting a child.
Kevin King was found guilty by a jury on two counts of first-degree sexual offense with a child and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child. King, 29, had been charged with assaulting a 7-year-old who had been visiting his home in January 2010.
Judge David Lee sentenced King to two consecutive sentences of 19 years and 8 months to 24 years 5 months in prison. Combined, it means King will serve at least 39 1/3 years in prison and will be at least 69 years old when he is eligible for release, according to the district attorney’s office in Monroe.
District Attorney Trey Robison praised police and prosecutors for their work in the case, adding, “I would especially like to commend the child, who had the courage to get up in court and testify against her abuser. And I thank the people, both inside and outside the court system, who supported her through that process.”
