Allison Kiehl and Denny Beck have a relationship history full of unique locales—they first met on the coast of Antigua. “It turns out we were both there for the same wedding,” says Denny. After dancing the night away, they kept in touch from their separate states and started their long-distance courtship.

Two and a half years later, they slipped away to a coast closer to home. The couple had planned a long weekend in Key West, and while they usually keep their itineraries open, this time Denny made special dinner reservations. After a boat ride to the island of Sunset Key, during a romantic dinner on the beach, he asked Allison to marry him.

For the wedding ceremony, Allison and Denny chose an overlook at Crowder’s Mountain, sentimental to the couple as their first date spot in North Carolina. Other than the setting, the couple knew they wanted a hands-off approach to planning. “We’ve both learned that when we try to control things it doesn’t work,” says Denny. So this laid-back couple treated their guests to an unusual method: a surprise destination. “We told our families about the wedding date and location only three days before the ceremony,” says Allison. The pair invited their closest family and friends, along with also pastor and the photographers from Old South Studios. “We were so lucky to find a pastor and photographers that were 100 percent in,” she raves.

After the ceremony, with hand-chosen vows and a ring warming service, everyone enjoyed a relaxed dinner at the Cajun Queen. “Because there were only 25 of us, we all got to spend time together and truly get to know each other better,” says Allison. “It was truly the perfect wedding day.”
