Catawba nuclear plant focus of NRC meeting

Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the safety performance of the Catawba nuclear plant, south of Charlotte, at an April 29 meeting in Rock Hill.

The NRC gave the plant’s Unit 1 special attention in late 2012 after the unit lost offsite power, a safety risk. A recent inspection found the problem had been adequately addressed, the NRC said.

The NRC’s safety summaries of Unit 1 and Unit 2 are online separately.

The Catawba meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in Rock Hill City Hall, 155 Johnston St. After a presentation, NRC staff will be available to answer questions. Bruce Henderson
