Radio Road bridge over I-40 closes Wednesday

STATESVILLE -- The N.C. Department of Transportation will close the Radio Road bridge over Interstate 40 on Wednesday, so crews can begin the job of tearing down the bridge and replacing it.

The work is part of the $89.1 million Interstate 40-77 Interchange Improvement Project.

Officials say it will take a little more than six months to replace the bridge. During that time, Radio Road traffic will be detoured to N.C. 115, to access I-40 at Exit 150. Radio Road traffic north of I-40 will take Museum Road to N.C. 115, and traffic south of I-40 will use Hartness Road.

I-40 traffic in the bridge area might be restricted at times to one lane in each direction, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. during the construction period. No daytime restrictions are scheduled.
