Chiquita names new chief financial officer

Charlotte-based Chiquita Brands International announced Tuesday the appointment of Rick Frier as the company’s senior vice president and chief financial officer.

Frier will be responsible for the company’s financial operations worldwide. He succeeds Brian Kocher, who moved to the company’s new position of chief operating officer in December.

Frier has more than 30 years of experience in finance and operational roles, according to Chiquita’s announcement. He’s the former director, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Catalina Marketing Corp., a global consumer precision marketing company. Frier also served as director, chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Mattress Discounters Inc.

“Rick has a strong finance and operational background, and a proven track record of success across a variety of industries,” Ed Lonergan, Chiquita’s president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

“His experience in leading organizations through turnaround situations, and his demonstrated leadership skills are well suited to help Chiquita implement its refocused strategic direction.” The company said last year it would consolidate global sales, business unit and food safety capabilities into a single organization.
