The winner: I save my 100-ounce plastic detergent bottles, rinse them out and use them to mix my Miracle Grow liquid plant fertilizer. It makes it easy to pour around my flowers and I keep several bottles made up in the summer and line them up on the back porch where they will be ready to use on my beautiful flowers. Alice Driggers, Wallace, SC

Coated gloves offer helping hand

If you don’t have a lot of grip strength in your hands and have trouble removing jar lids and bottle caps, try using a pair of nitrile-coated gloves available a home centers and hardware stores. Jim Little, Harrisburg

Don’t let this happen to you

Recently, I had the bad luck to accidentally lock myself out of the house while walking my dog. My husband was in bed, recovering from a medical procedure, so I reluctantly knocked until he came to the door to let us in. Determined never to do that again, I put a key on a spring clip and added it to the dog’s leash. Problem solved. Janet Taylor, Lincolnton
