Catawba man faces 4 meth charges

NEWTON -- A Catawba County man faces a number of drug charges after being arrested Wednesday during a traffic stop, authorities say.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office says Justo Manuel Gonzalez Jr. was arrested during a stop for what deputies say was a traffic-related offense on N.C. 16. During the stop, deputies say, they searched the vehicle and found 16 ounces of what they think was methamphetamine.

They later said the meth had a street value of $24,000.

Gonzalez was charged with four felonies, all related to trafficking methamphetamine. He is being held under $300,000 bond. Authorities say Gonzalez could be facing up to 93 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
