2 arrested on I-40, face drug charges

HICKORY -- A man from Alexander County and a woman from Burke County were arrested Wednesday after sheriff’s deputies said they found drugs in their vehicle.

The arrests happened during a traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Catawba County, coordinated by the narcotics division of the sheriff’s office.

Authorities say detectives found 288 grams of methamphetamine hidden in a compartment of the vehicle. Detectives also found $11,200 in cash, they say. The drugs had a street value of $17,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office says Johnny Warren Speight, of Taylorsville, and Alexis Brook Goralczyk, of Connelly Springs, were arrested. They were charged with three felonies related to trafficking methamphetamine, according to authorities. Each is held under $70,000 bond.
