A Lincoln County man faces misdemeanor animal cruelty charges after he allegedly used his van to drag a donkey down a road Thursday evening in the northwest part of the county.
The animal was left with scrapes and cuts on its legs and rear, according to Lincoln County Sheriffs Sgt. Terry Posey. The sergeant said he found scrape marks on a paved road, indicating that the donkey was dragged more than 3/10ths of a mile.
Richard Ricky Hudson, 68, was arrested and charged with conveying animals in a cruel manner. He was released on $4,000 bond.
Neighbors reported a man driving a van and dragging a donkey behind the vehicle. Witnesses said the donkey was tied with a rope to the trailer hitch on the rear of the van, deputies said.
Posey found Hudson walking the animal on Plateau Road.
A witness cared for the animal while Hudson was questioned, deputies said. The donkey was turned over to Lincoln County Animal Services.
