Cabarrus freshman repeats Gravity Games title

Krista Jones, a freshman at Mt. Pleasant High in Cabarrus, is the Open division winner at the North Carolina Gravity Games Soapbox Races in Lenoir for the second straight year. The event gives students the chance to participate in a hands-on event that involves principles of science, technology, engineering and math.

Open division competitors used cars powered by a combination of gravity and/or a small DC battery. Bruce Jones of Charlotte, Krista’s father and teammate, said they used a 12-volt, 5-amp power battery as their power source, with motors from remote control airplanes.
