Position: Running back
What he offers: Explosive running back who starred on the Oregon track team as an all-conference sprinter. Along with averaging 6.4 yards per carry last year, he was a dynamic returner in his first three seasons.
Why he fits: At running back, he doesnt really. The Panthers are set with DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert. But he could be Ted Ginn Jr.s backup at kick returner.
Worth mentioning: General manager Dave Gettleman hinted at Barner being used as a scat back in certain schemes because of his speed. Barner ran a 4.38 40-time at his pro day.
Bet you didnt know: He is one of only three Oregon athletes to win a (then) Pac-10 championship in track and field and football in the same academic year.
What theyre saying: Hes going to compete hes got value, and thats why we picked him. We didnt just pick a guy to bring him in, we picked a guy to compete. Ron Rivera, Panthers coach
