Police search for bank robbery suspect

Police are investigating a midday bank robbery in Concord on Monday.

Around noon on Monday, police say the State Employees Credit Union in the 500 block of Lake Concord Road NE was robbed.

Concord Police say the robber displayed a handgun, jumped the counter and removed money from register drawers. He placed the money into a small black bag and fled the scene by walking to an adjacent parking lot behind the bank.

Police say the robber then left the area in a black 4-door Mercedes Benz heading down Branchview Drive to Copperfield Boulevard, then making a left onto Roxie Street.

The suspect was then involved in a traffic accident near the intersection of Copperfield Boulevard and Roxie Street, where the vehicle sustained damage to the right rear tail light.

The suspect continued to flee the scene following the collision.

No shots were fired during the course of the robbery, officials say.

The scene has since been cleared.

No one was injured.
