Want to sing at speedway? Tryouts are today

Are you ready to sing “God Bless America” or the National Anthem for a crowd of 150,000 people later this month?

Today’s your day to try out.

Charlotte Motor Speedway is holding auditions this morning at the track and this afternoon in Pineville. You’ll perform an a cappella version of either song, and you’ll be videotaped.

Then fans will have a chance, through May 22, to vote for winners.

Five winners will be selected to perform at Charlotte Motor Speedway, as part of what is billed as the Speedway Superstar Tour.

One person each will be picked to sing “God Bless America” at the N.C. Education Lottery 200 truck series race on May 17; “God Bless America” at the NASCAR Sprint All-Star event on May 18; the national anthem at the History 300 Nationwide Series race on May 25; “God Bless America” at the May 25 Nationwide event; and “God Bless America” at the Coca-Cola 600 Sprint Cup race on May 26.

If you can hurry out to the speedway this morning, you’re asked to arrive by 10:30 a.m.

The Pineville auditions are planned for 4 p.m. at the Best Buy, 10600 Centrum Parkway.

You can vote for winners online at this website.
