3 Charlotte rail crossings to close Thursday

Several Norfolk Southern rail crossings in north Charlotte will be closed at times, starting Thursday morning and lasting through Friday, so crews can make repairs, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

A subcontractor for the railroad will be replacing crossties at three locations. Crossings at Sugar Creek and Craighead roads and 36th Street will be closed for several hours, which means motorists will need to take detours.

Here are the detours:

Sugar Creek Road: North Tryon Street to Eastway Drive, to The Plaza, back to Sugar Creek Road.

Craighead Road: Davidson Street, to Sugar Creek Road, to The Plaza, to Eastway Drive, to U.S. 29, and back to Craighead Road.

Craighead Road: North Tryon Street, to Matheson Avenue, to Jordan Place, to Davidson Street, and back to 36th Street.
