The average domestic airfare fell slightly at Charlotte Douglas International Airfare in the fourth quarter last year, data released Monday by the federal government show.
A roundtrip domestic ticket from Charlotte Douglas averaged $397, down 1.5 percent compared to the same quarter last year. Out of nations top 100 airports, Charlotte was the 31st most-expensive city from which to fly.
That ranking was down slightly from the third quarter, when Charlotte ranked as the nations 29th-most expensive city to fly from.
Charlotte Douglas is one of the most concentrated hub airports, with about 90 percent of flights operated by Tempe, Arizona-based US Airways. Once the airline completes its merger with American Airlines, about 94 percent of flights at Charlotte Douglas will be operated by the combined company.
The merger is expected to close in the third quarter this year.
