Catawba teacher accused of secretly videotaping student

A Catawba County middle school teacher was arrested on charges he videotaped a female student.

A student told investigators that the teacher, 50-year-old Scott Grantham, used the camera to shoot down her blouse as he approached her from behind.

Grantham is as an English as a Second Language teacher at Arndt Middle School. But Catawba school officials said he has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the police investigation.

Authorities said they are looking into more victims.

Grantham was charged with two felony counts of secret peeping and was placed under a $10,000 bond. But he is now out on bond.

In a statement, Catawba County Schools said Grantham is prohibited from being on any campus owned or operated by Catawba County Schools and from communicating with employees and students during his suspension. But, officials said, “due to the ongoing investigation and laws relating to confidential personnel matters, Catawba County Schools cannot discuss this matter further at this time.”
