Alcohol contributed to fatal scooter crash

Authorities have determined that alcohol played a role in the scooter crash that killed Samuel Farrar.

Farrar, 44, died Thursday afternoon at Carolinas Medical Center after he struck a median near the 6100 block of Nations Ford Road about 9:30 p.m. May 4.

Farrar was operating a 2004 Yamaha Zuma scooter when he hit the median. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to the wreck, near Tyvola Glen Circle, and continued to investigate after Medic took Farrar to CMC.

At the time of the crash, police did not believe speed was a factor, and have since determined alcohol contributed to the crash.
