Rachel discovered her love of food at a young age - cooking with her mother and finding joy in preparing food for others. Rachel worked in restaurant public relations in New York City before moving to Charlotte in September 2011. These days she's nurturing her own passion for local fare as Charlotte's food culture grows.

Charlotte is an ever-changing melting pot—from a thriving music and art scene to more than two dozen food trucks and an exploding craft beer market—'up-and-coming’ is an understatement for our growing city. And even amidst all of this wonderful culture lies an industry that is moving the needle forward in a big way for Charlotte, with a big green thumb.

We are very fortunate to have among us an amazing collection of dedicated farmers—some of whom have been grandfathered in by family tradition, and others experimenting with the latest, most sustainable farming techniques, many for the first time; all equipped with the passion to grow and share local food with our city.

While here in Charlotte you may know a few familiar faces if you frequent the farmers' markets, there are many farmers whose faces you might not recognize, nor the amazing projects they seek to nourish and grow. Well, now’s your chance to get in the know.

Sunday, May 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Triple C Brewery in South End, Atherton Market will host Funds to Farms, an evening showcasing the talented brilliance we have among our farmers and food entrepreneurs in the area and the potential they are waiting to unlock. These personalities will have the opportunity to present their ideas and projects to the event’s guests alongside six local-area authorities on all things food, agriculture and development within the industry who helped make this event possible including Amy Campbell and Jared Cates from CFSA; Carol Hewitt from Slow Money; Michael Petersen from Slow Food Charlotte; Lynn Caldwell from Atherton Market and Cat Harris from Edible Charlotte. The winners will receive grants to help get their projects moving in the right direction and all participating farmers will benefit from the evening’s ticket proceeds.

$20 will get you an evening filled with a community dinner from the ever-popular Roots Farm Food, a vote in deciding who receives the grants, and an opportunity to drink and mingle with these farmers and food entrepreneurs that help keep Charlotte local.
