What do North Carolina’s governor, a U.S. Senator, a Grammy-winning recording artist, and one of the NFL’s greatest placekickers have in common?

Each is a guest speaker Saturday at a college commencement exercise in the Carolinas.

It’s the biggest day of the year for graduation ceremonies, and the list includes UNC Charlotte, along with a number of other major schools in the two states.

Gov. Pat McCrory will address graduating students at his alma mater, Catawba College in Salisbury. U.S. Sen. Richard Burr will speak at Chowan University in Murfreesboro. The speaker at Saturday morning’s commencement exercises at the University of South Carolina is Darius Rucker, former lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish and now a successful country artist. And Wingate University graduates will hear from John Kasay, former kicker with the Carolina Panthers.

UNC Charlotte will hold two commencement exercises – one Saturday morning, and the other in the afternoon. Also graduating Saturday are students at the Charlotte School of Law.
