CMPD hosts awards ceremony

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department hosts its annual award ceremony Wednesday, honoring officers who’ve provided service to the community, helped bring down crime and even saved lives.

The event begins at 10 a.m. with a promotion ceremony. The awards ceremony follows at 10:30 a.m.

The event takes place at the Police & Fire training academy at 1770 Shopton Road.

Several officers are slated to receive promotions: Detective Angela Caroway, Officer Jason Helton and Officer Jesse Wood will be promoted to the rank of sergeant.

Sgt. Nelson Bowling will be promoted to captain.

And Capt. Steve Willis will be promoted to Major.
