Sheriff: Lincolnton man kicked, strangled pregnant woman

By Elizabeth Thomas
WCNC-TV

A Lincoln County man is accused of assaulting a pregnant woman after she confronted him about cheating on her, authorities say.

Wednesday morning, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home in the 2200 block of Startown Road for a disturbance. When they arrived, the female victim reported she’d been kicked in the stomach and was three months pregnant. Deputies also say she had marks on her neck.

Deputies then placed 29-year-old Rafael Angel Corella in custody.

Authorities say Corella kicked the victim in the stomach and grabbed her around the neck when he was confronted about cheating on the victim.

The victim left the scene and called 911. EMS responded and advised the victim appeared to be okay.

Corella is charged with one felony count of assault by strangulation and misdemeanor battery of an unborn child.

He was placed in the Lincoln County Detention Center without bond.
