Lockdown lifted at Mountain Island Elementary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has lifted a lockdown Friday at Mountain Island Elementary.

The school went on lockdown around 12:30 p.m. because of a police investigation near the school. But it was lifted around 1:50 p.m., according to a CMS spokesman.

WCNC-TV, the Observer’s news partner, reported that police were responding to an assault in the 8200 block of Old Plank Road. That is about a half-mile away from the elementary school on Pleasant Grove Road.

Police asked the school district to implement a lockdown as a precautionary measure.
