One person was killed in a Sunday evening wreck on Providence Road that police blamed on excessive speed.

Police identified the dead man as 22-year-old Adrian Francisco Sanchez.

Police say Sanchez was speeding in his 2003 Acura 3.2 TL S just after 6 p.m. when he lost control, drove off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole.

Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say alcohol use does not appear to be a factor in the crash, though they are still investigating and encouraged anyone with information about the crash to call investigators at 704-336-8862.

The wreck knocked out power to hundreds in the area around Providence Road and Sharon Amity Road.
