Walters new head of Union school

MONROE -- Ann Walters, who completed much of her schooling in Union County, was named recently as the new head of school at Union Academy, a charter school in Monroe.

Walters, a Monroe High School graduate, was appointed by the school’s board to the position in April. She had served as director of technology at Union Academy since last July. Prior to that, she was a teacher and athletic coach in the Union County Public Schools.

Walters, 44, earned her bachelors and masters degrees at Wingate University, where she also was a standout women’s basketball player. She later received a doctorate in sports management.
