No injuries in south Iredell house fire

MOUNT MOURNE -- Fire officials are working to determine what caused the two-alarm fire that destroyed a house in southern Iredell County on Wednesday evening.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, which was battled by crews from eight fire departments, officials say.

The fire was reported shortly before 5 p.m. in the 200 block of Eastport Lane, between Interstate 77 and N.C. 115. That is between Mooresville and Davidson.

Firefighters found flames and smoke pouring from the house when they arrived. Motorists reported seeing the smoke from miles away. There are no hydrants in the area, officials say, so water had to be trucked to the site. It took crews about 2 1/2 hours to put out the fire.

Crews responded from the Mount Mourne, Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Lake Norman, Mooresville, Shepherds and South Iredell fire departments.
