Inmate escapes from Lincolnton work release program

Lincolnton authorities were searching for an inmate who escaped from a prison work release program Thursday.

Ronald Billings, 38, was last seen at about 2:45 p.m. at a work location in Lincolnton.

Billings was serving a seven-year prison sentence at the Lincoln Correctional Center for breaking and entering, forgery and other property crimes.

His projected release date is February 2015.

He has ties to Morganton, Alleghany County, as well as out of state.

Lincoln Correctional Center is a minimum-security prison for adult male inmates.
