Toilet paper closes U.S. 74 west of Shelby

SHELBY -- Crews in Cleveland County dealt with a giant “TP” job Friday morning.

A portion of U.S. 74 west of Shelby was closed after a crash involving two tractor-trailers left dozens of rolls of toilet paper strewn across the road.

The road remained closed early Friday afternoon.

The N.C. Highway Patrol says the westbound lanes are closed at the crash site, near Blackhawk Drive. That means U.S. 74 essentially is closed between Washburn Switch Road and Beaver Dam Church Road.

The crash was reported about 5:15 a.m.

Authorities say one driver suffered minor injuries, but the problem for crews at the scene is the debris. One of the trucks split open during the crash, sending a load of toilet paper onto the road.
