IRS offices closed today, due to budget cuts

Internal Revenue Service offices across the Carolinas and elsewhere in the nation are closed Friday, due to budget cuts caused by sequestration.

IRS employees are being furloughed for five days this summer, and the unpaid days off are being spread across a three-month period -- with closures on four Fridays and a Monday.

That means anyone planning to do business at the IRS office in east Charlotte or elsewhere across the region will have to wait until Tuesday. The offices are closed Monday for the Memorial Day holiday.

The other dates of closures are Friday, June 14; Friday, July 5; Monday, July 22; and Friday, Aug. 30.
