Lockdowns at 2 CMS schools

Students and staff at two Charlotte-Mecklenburg elementary schools dealt with lockdowns Friday, school system officials say.

The first was reported about 11 a.m. at Statesville Road Elementary. A CMS official says someone from the neighborhood entered the campus and was noticed by a school administrator. Police were called, and the man was taken away.

Police say the man is being questioned. He did not interact with students or staff, authorities say.

The second lockdown began about 12:30 p.m. at Huntersville Elementary School.

This time, CMS officials say, the action was ordered because of police activity nearby. It is not clear what type of activity Huntersville police are involved in.
