Private plane lands short of Charlotte runway

Airport officials have reopened West Boulevard between Yorkmont Road and Airport Drive after a small private airplane landed short of the runway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

The road had been closed for two hours as emergency crews responded to the grassy field where the plane went down.

The passengers walked away from the crash, which happened at 1:41 p.m., with minor injuries.

The plane landed short of runway 36R, prompting Federal Aviation Administration officials to respond to the airport to investigate.

First responders applied foam in the area where the plane came down.

Passenger jet traffic at the airport was not disrupted, however, according to the FAA.

Late Friday emergency crews were working to remove the plane from the site.
