LANDO, S.C. Chester County Sheriff’s Deputies have charged a caretaker after a 3-year-old was found riding his bike alone on a highway.

Neal Franklin Jones, 27, is charged with child neglect after his 3-year-old nephew was found biking alone around noon on Monday.

According to the incident report, the child was left in Jones’ care by the child’s grandparents, who had left the home to make a short trip into Chester.

Jones told authorities he was watching the boy ride his bike in the driveway when he went inside to grab something to drink. When he returned, Jones reported he could not find the child.

Authorities say Jones immediately called the grandparents to tell them he could not find the child, who then immediately rushed home and notified police of the missing boy.

The boy was found by a family driving down Edgeland Road.

The Chester County Sheriff’s Office contacted DSS, but DSS declined to open a case, as the child had been given proper care by his grandparents.

Charges were filed against Jones for failing to contact authorities when the child went missing.
