CONCORD -- Motorists who use Interstate 85 in Cabarrus County will deal with lane and ramp closures for the next week, the N.C. Department of Transportation says.
Crews will be demolishing the bridge on N.C. 73 over I-85, and that will require the closures. The work will take place from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, beginning Wednesday evening, and continuing through the morning of June 6.
The bridge demolition is part of the I-85 widening project, which will expand the interstate highway from four to eight lanes, from near Bruton Smith Boulevard to north of N.C. 73.
Tonight and Thursday night, crews will close the left lane of northbound I-85 at N.C. 73 at 11 p.m. At midnight, traffic will be shifted up and over the exit and entrance ramps on I-85 southbound at N.C. 73. The closures will be removed by 6 a.m. Thursday and Friday.
