Rescue, fire agencies train at Lake Norman

People in the Lake Norman area and in eastern Lincoln County are seeing increased activity by firefighters and the N.C. Air National Guard participating in training exercises as the Guard’s Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team joins with several area fire departments for water rescue training. “This opportunity to join forces with local, state and federal agencies and train together will prove to be an invaluable experience for the emergency services agencies involved as well as the communities in which they serve,” Denver Fire Department Chief James Flynn said. The training, which includes military Black Hawk helicopters flying at relatively low altitudes, continues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
