East Gaston wrestling coach faces sex charges

East Gaston High School wrestling coach and teacher Gary Scott Goins was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with 15 felony sex-related charges.

Goins, 44, head coach of the wrestling team for nearly a decade, was taken into custody at his home. He was charged with 14 counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count of statutory rape of a minor, age 6 or older.

The Gaston Gazette is reporting that the charges involve former wrestlers at the school, and that the wrestlers came forward to police with complaints against Goins.

Goins is being held under $100,000 bond. The school’s website reports he also teaches earth and environmental science.

Check back for further details later in the day.
