Pedestrian killed north of Gastonia

DALLAS -- The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a man who was struck by a vehicle while walking on U.S. 321 north of Gastonia late Wednesday night.

The victim was identified as Dustin Allen Bowen, 26, of Lincolnton.

Troopers say the incident apparently happened about 12:45 a.m. on northbound U.S. 321 near Dallas. A motorist told troopers he struck the man, who was walking on the right side of the road. The driver did not have a cell phone, so he told troopers he left the crash scene to find a phone and call 911.

No charges have been filed in the case.
