Denver man convicted of statutory rape

NEWTON -- A Lincoln County man was convicted Wednesday in Catawba County of rape and kidnapping.

Bryan Jonathan Egan Jr., 25, was sentenced to 12 years to 15 years 2 months in prison. He was found guilty on three counts of first-degree statutory rape; first-degree kidnapping; and indecent liberties with a child.

Egan, of Denver, had been arrested in late 2011. At the time, authorities said the victim was a 14-year-old girl who was acquainted with Egan but was not a relative.

As part of the sentence, Egan was ordered not to contact the victim again.
