Rowan man held in girlfriend’s death

CHINA GROVE -- A Rowan County man will make his first court appearance Tuesday morning in Salisbury, after being charged over the weekend in the death of his girlfriend in China Grove, police say.

Wayne Eugene Hill, 55, faces murder charges in the death of Roxanne Fowler Maddry, 48. Her body was found about 7:45 p.m. Saturday at her home on Poplar Street in China Grove. Police said she died of blunt force trauma.

Law enforcement officers began searching Saturday night for Hill, who had been dating Maddry for several years. His wrecked vehicle was found on N.C. 24/27 in Stanly County, and that touched off a manhunt. Hill was found a short time later, police say.

He is being held without bond in Rowan County.
