Statistically speaking: Small-business owners and hiring

In the past three months, 47 percent of small-business owners hired or attempted to hire, according to the National Federation of Independent Business’ May Small Business Jobs Report. Here are other findings:

19 percent of owners reported job openings they could not fill.

38 percent reported few or no new qualified applicants for open positions.

12 percent of owners shrunk their staff.
