Every weekend should be treated as a celebration. Here are a few suggestions for ways you can celebrate this one:

Village Tavern at 5 (4201 Congress St.): The free weekend kick-off party will feature live music by Currie Clayton and drink specials, with bar proceeds benefiting Share Our Strength’s dedication to ending childhood hunger in America. Good times, good cause. 5-10 p.m. 704-552-9983.

Fourth Annual Family Addition Dog Rescue at Whisky River (210 E. Trade St.): A $25 ticket includes food, goodie bags and good karma; proceeds will go toward helping dogs in Charlotte find homes. 6-10 p.m. 704-749-1097;

Stock the Tornado Truck for Oklahoma Party at Lucky Dog Bark and Brew (19607 Statesville Road, Cornelius): A charity drive gone to the dogs (and all the pets displaced by the horrific tornadoes in Moore). Bartenders from Lucky Dog are offering drink specials to those who’ll help fill a moving truck bound for Oklahoma with pet supplies. They’ll take dog food, treats, beds, toys, leashes or any sort of supply a pet owner would need. Your dog is welcome to come hang out, too! 6-11 p.m. No cover. 704-896-5550.

Belmont’s Summer of Shag Friday Night Live in downtown Belmont (South Main Street): The free beach music concert series features tunes from Coming Up Brass. And coming up in future weeks: the Voltage Brothers on June 28 and Band of Oz on July 12. 7-10 p.m.

Second Annual Brew Stash Bash at the U.S. National Whitewater Center (5000 Whitewater Center Parkway): Sample craft beer from 25 breweries, including several local ones. Live music by The Black Cadillacs, The Broadcast, Town Mountain, and Railroad Earth will make the beer go down easy. 11 a.m.-8 p.m. $5 for four beer tickets. 704-391-3900.

Killin Beats and Grillin Meats at Volume Lounge (1801 Commonwealth Ave.): A local DJ appreciation party (and showcase) that includes free barbecue. There also will be a vinyl exchange going on inside, so bring your records. 3 p.m.-2 a.m. Free. 704-333-9197.

Beatles Tribute Night at Knight Theater (430 S. Tryon St.): The 10th anniversary of John Tosco’s Beatles tribute, with 25 different acts all performing Beatles songs. 7 p.m. $13-$20. 704-372-1000;
