Snake causes power outage in Union County

A snake left 3,558 people out of power for an hour this morning in southern Union County.

Power was out from 5:10 a.m. until 6:10 a.m., said Carrie Stroud, manager of communications for Union Power.

Stroud said officials found a “fried” snake in a delivery point where Union Power connects with Duke Energy’s transmission system, when crews came for repairs.

She said a lot of animals are attracted to the humming and heat from power lines.
