MONROE -- A woman was killed when fire swept through her home south of Monroe early Friday, according to Union County fire officials.

The blaze was reported about 2 a.m. at a home on Lancaster Highway. A passing motorist noticed flames and smoke coming from the single-story brick ranch and called 911.
