A woman was killed Friday morning after her minivan collided with a tractor trailer at an intersection where the lights weren’t working because of Thursday afternoon storms.
Police identified the dead woman as Jessica Fesperman of Rockwell, North Carolina.
She was traveling southbound on U.S. 52 in the Albemarle city limitis when her 1998 Ford Windstar collided with a truck driven by a Sanford man.
Fesperman was killed. Three passengers in the van were transported to Stanly Regional Medical Center and then transferred to either Baptist Hospital or Carolinas Medical Center for treatment.
The truck driver wasn’t injured.
Strong thunderstorms struck the Charlotte-area around 5 p.m. Thursday, blocking dozens of streets and knocking out power to 175,000 Duke Energy customers. Staff writer Steve Lyttle contributed.
