4 Charlotte students will study language abroad

Graduating Myers Park High juniors Claire Loudermilch and Trevor Shealy; Ardrey Kell senior Anna Dubovitskaya; and Charlotte Catholic sophomore Patrick Menkhaus were awarded National Security Language Initiative for Youth scholarships beginning this month.

Claire will study Chinese in Beijing for the 2013-14 academic year, her second NSLI-Y scholarship. She was in Shanghai last summer as part of the program. Anna will study Chinese in China this summer.

Trevor and Patrick will study Arabic in Jordan.

The NSLI-Y program, funded by the U.S. Department of State, provides merit-based scholarships for high school students to learn less-commonly taught languages in summer and academic-year overseas immersion programs. The scholarship includes all program costs, including domestic and international travel.
