Nova’s Bakery, the bread bakery based on Central Avenue, will add a new location later this week and is planning to open another in Rock Hill soon.
Owner Sladjana Novakovic says the new location is at 3555 Matthews Mint Hill Road near Matthews, in the Hoods Crossroads shopping center. The new shop joins the main location, 1511 Central Ave., and a second location on South Boulevard. The bakery also has a regular stand at the Charlotte Regional Farmer’s Market.
Novakovic says she has found a location in Rock Hill and plans to open there soon.
The Novakovic family left Serbia in 1993 to get medical help for their son, who was blind. After opening their first bakery in Charlotte in 1996, they moved several years later to the location on Central Avenue.
So what does it mean that the bakery is adding so many spaces?
“It means my kids grew up and are ready,” Novakovic said Monday.
She has a daughter, 24, who now has a business degree from Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, and the son with vision trouble is now 23 and working for the bakery, too. A third child is still in high school but will start work soon as a cashier, she says.
