Firefighter hurt in south Charlotte house blaze

One Charlotte firefighter suffered minor injuries overnight while battling a blaze at a home on the south side of the city.

The fire was reported before 1 a.m. at a residence on Stoney Hill Lane. That is near the Touchstone Village community, off Elm Lane and south of Pineville-Matthews Road.

A neighbor called 911 to report the fire, and the home’s two residents escaped safely. Charlotte fire Capt. Rob Brisley said the firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Brisley said a crew of more than 50 firefighters needed about 90 minutes to subdue the blaze. Brisley said a candle left burning unattended on the back porch of the house started the fire.

Damage was estimated at $200,000.
