Stores damaged in Sardis Rd. North fire

At least two stores were damaged Wednesday morning when fire broke out at a shopping center in southeast Charlotte, fire officials say.

The blaze was reported about 4:45 a.m. at the Sardis Crossing Shopping Center, on Sardis Road North at Monroe Road. Smoke was coming from the top of the stores when firefighters arrived.

The heaviest damage appeared to be at Nemo’s Reef, a fish store. Neighboring Monroe Business Center apparently suffered smoke damage, according to crews at the scene.

No injuries were reported, and the center’s largest store, a Harris Teeter on Monroe Road, was not affected by the blaze.

Crews are working to determine a cause.
